ST. LOUIS (KMOX)-Two dozen of the St. Louis area?s most powerful people are banding together to fight cancer.?The leaders of 24 major local corporations?have formed the American Cancer Society?s CEOs Against Cancer of Missouri-St. Louis Chapter.?
Ameren Missouri CEO Warner Baxter chairs the chapter, ?This group, CEOs Against Cancer, I?m convinced can really make a big difference in the community. We can raise the awareness about the importance of prevention and then beyond that, we can actually save lives.?
Co-chair?Rick Navarre of Peabody Energy, says CEOs can encourage their employees to live healthy and help them do so, ?Whether it?s by providing preventative healthcare screening opportunities or promoting a?healthier eating lifestyle.??
Fellow?co-chair, Express Scripts CEO George Paz, says his company is encouraging healthier eating ?by charging less for healthy food in its cafeteria.? He says Express Scripts also has mapped out a mile long?walk?through its buildings. He says during the winter, each executive picks a day and?leads employees on a walk.
Paz says?promoting employee?health, is also good business, ?Having a well workforce makes a huge difference in productivity, output and better results.?
Former Mizzou?basketball coach and cancer survivor Norm Stewart believes CEOs Against Cancer will be a winner in St. Louis, ?I was really a good coach when I had a good team, when I had good players. I got the best players here.?
