Waiver Wire Starting Pitchers ? Fantasy Sports Gab

Solid starting pitching is always a necessity this time of year so here are 4 ?pitchers that are still available in a good chunk of leagues and will certanly balance out the back of your rotation to get your team over the hump. Watch out for Mike Leake though, ?he?s coming back from an arrest for shoplifting T shirts at a Macy?s?

?

1. Mike Leake SP?Cincinnati? Reds

Monday night Leake pitched the Reds to a 5-0 victory against the Rays. He went six innings and allowed only four hits and two walks to go along with three strikeouts. This is Leake?s 7th win already with his 2010 total of 8. His 3.8 ERA and 1.20 WHIP makes him worthy of pickup. I only see him getting better as he gets his mechanical kinks out in the second half. Owned in 12% of ESPN leagues 18% in Yahoo Leagues.

2. Tim Stauffer SP San Diego Padres

Stauffer has been one of the best pitchers in baseball over the past few weeks.Look past Stauffer?s ?lowsy 3-5 record and you find a 1.21 WHIP and 3.09 ERA. ?Stauffer picked up that third win of the season Friday after limiting Atlanta to just two runs on four hits through seven innings. He also notched an impressive ?nine punchouts. Don? t sleep on the pre-season number one in San Diego. Owned in 51% of ESPN leagues and 53% of Yahoo Leagues.

3. Edinson Volquez SP?Cincinnati Reds

Edinson outpitched ace James Shields today in the Reds 4-3 win over the Rays. His cut fastball and changeups were?surprisingly controlled and kept them off the plate.??Made a mistake pitch to BJ Upton but still came was able to hold the Rays to only 3 runs.?Volquez walked six batters over 14.1 innings in his two minor league starts, so not all of his command woes have been solved but a good start like this could get him back on track. Keep an eye on him and stash him if you can. Owned in 27.8 % ESPN leagues and 36% of Yahoo Leagues.

4. Carlos Carrasco SP Cleveland Indians

Carlos Carrasco has allowed a total of ?two earned runs in his last 29 2/3 innings, dropping his ERA to measly 0.61. ?Since May 17, Carrasco is 6-2 with a 2.55 ERA but wasnt able to overcome errors in?Friday?s 4-3 loss to San Francisco. If he?s still available in your leagues I highly?recommend?him as a strong back- end starter in your rotation. Owned in 53.9 % of ESPN Leagues and 46% of Yahoo Leagues.
