Military Moms Breastfeeding in Uniform: National Pride or Over the Line?

National pride? Disgrace? Somewhere in the middle?

A photo of two servicewomen breastfeeding their children while in uniform has gone viral and added a new layer to the ongoing debate over nursing in public.

It's probably safe to say the Time Magazine breastfeeding cover went over quite well with Mom2Mom, a breastfeeding support group for military mothers.

In a series of tasteful professional photos showing beaming moms nursing kids, one jumps out for obvious reasons: the photo of two servicewomen below ...

Military Moms Breastfeeding

"A lot of people are saying it's a disgrace to the uniform. They're comparing it to urinating and defecating [while in uniform]," says Crystal Scott, a military spouse living at Fairchild AFB outside Spokane, Wash., who started Mom2Mom in January.

"It's extremely upsetting. Defecating in public is illegal. Breastfeeding is not."

It was Scott's idea to ask photographer Brynja Sigurdardottir to take the photos and create posters for National Breastfeeding Awareness Month in August.

One of the moms photographed in uniform, Terran Echegoyen-McCabe, breastfeeds her 10-month-old twin girls on her lunch breaks during drill weekends.

"I have breast-fed in our lobby, in my car, in the park ... and I pump, usually in the locker room," says the proud member of the Air National Guard."

"I'm proud to be wearing a uniform while breastfeeding. I hope [the photo] encourages other women to know they can, whether they're active duty, guard or civilian."

She said she's surprised by the reaction to the photos, which also feature her friend Christina Luna, because it never occurred to her it would cause a stir.

"There isn't a policy saying we can or cannot breastfeed in uniform," Echegoyen-McCabe says. "I think we do need to be able to breastfeed in uniform and be protected."

What do you think? Should they be allowed to?

Cosmic calculations for exploring where stars are born

ScienceDaily (May 31, 2012) ? A University of Delaware-led research team reports an advance in the June 1 issue of Science that may help astrophysicists more accurately analyze the vast molecular clouds of gas and dust where stars are born.

Krzysztof Szalewicz, professor of physics and astronomy at UD, was the principal investigator on the National Science Foundation funded research project, which solved equations of quantum mechanics to describe more precisely the interactions between molecules of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, the two most abundant gases in space.

Such calculations are important to spectroscopy, the science that identifies atoms or molecules by the color of light they absorb or emit. Sir Isaac Newton discovered that sunlight shining through a prism would separate into a rainbow of colors. Today, spectroscopy is essential to fields ranging from medical diagnostics to airport security.

In astrophysics, spectrometers attached to telescopes orbiting in space measure light across the visible, infrared, and microwave spectrum to detect and quantify the abundance of chemical elements and molecules, as well as their temperatures and densities, in places such as the vast Orion Nebula, a celestial maternity ward crowded with newborn stars, some 1,500 light years away.

Whereas carbon monoxide -- the second-most abundant molecule in space -- is easily detected by spectrometers, such is not the case for hydrogen. Despite ranking as the most abundant molecule in space, hydrogen emits and absorbs very little light in the spectral ranges that can be observed. Thus, researchers must deduce information about molecular hydrogen from its weak interactions with carbon monoxide in the interstellar medium (the stuff between the stars).

"The hydrogen spectra get lost on the way, but carbon monoxide is like a lighthouse -- its spectra are observed more often than those of any other molecule," Szalewicz says. "You can indirectly tell what the density of hydrogen is from the carbon monoxide spectra."

Szalewicz and co-authors Piotr Jankowski, a former UD postdoctoral researcher who is now on the chemistry faculty at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Poland, and A. Robert W. McKellar, from the National Research Council in Ottawa, Canada, wanted to revisit the spectra of the hydrogen and carbon monoxide complex. The first time such a calculation was done was 14 years ago by Szalewicz and Jankowski, parallel to an accurate measurement by McKellar.

In their computational model, the scientists needed to determine first how electrons move around nuclei. To this end, they included simultaneous excitations of up to four electrons at a time. The energy levels produced by the rotations and vibrations of the nuclei then were computed and used to build a theoretical spectrum that could be compared with the measured one.

The team's calculations, accomplished with the high-powered kolos computing cluster at UD, have resulted in theoretical spectra 100 times more accurate than those published 14 years ago. The theoretical and experimental spectra are now in near-perfect agreement, which allowed the team to "assign" the spectrum, that is, to determine how each spectral feature is related to the underlying motion of the nuclei, Szalewicz says.

The combined theoretical and experimental knowledge about this molecular complex now can be used to analyze recent results from satellite observatories to search for its direct spectral signal. Even more importantly, this knowledge can be used to get better information about the hydrogen molecule in space from indirect observations, Szalewicz notes.

"Spectroscopy provides the most precise information about matter that is available," he says. "I am pleased that our computations have untangled such a complex problem."

Szalewicz's expertise is in numerically solving the equations for the motions of electrons resulting in molecules attracting or repelling each other and then using these interactions to look at different properties of clusters and condensed phases of matter.

His research has unveiled hidden properties of water and found a missing state in the beryllium dimer, both results previously reported in Science, and his findings about helium may lead to more accurate standards for measuring temperature and pressure.

Distance Learning gets boost in the Caribbean

What is the best way to learn and study if you live in a region of the world that is made up of 41 different islands? For many individuals who live in the Caribbean, distance learning is the method of choice when choosing to gain a higher education. Many also choose to move to study overseas. With continued advances in information technology students are now able to study from anywhere with an internet connection and increasingly are choosing to study from distance to limit costs.

Jamaica is one of the largest proponents for distance learning, as then Minister of Education Hon. Andrew Holness said last year, "distance learning will be the choice of many more students to achieve tertiary level education in the future".

The subjects of English and Mathematics tend to be favored by students of distance learning as there are few limitations to what can be achieved in these fields.

For more practical subjects such as engineering or science related fields, the notion of learning by distance is somewhat questionable. Companies have recently backed the trend by recognizing distance learning degrees as providing an adequate grounding in certain subjects.

The number of ways that students can now study online and the variety of tools available to them is continuing to increase. From online presentations, e-books, and interactive lessons students can arguable have access to all they would at a 'bricks-and-mortar' university. Online universities are now able to provide a plethora of facilities for students which just wasn?t available even five years ago.

In Kingston, the capital of Jamaica, some of the world's best known distance learning institutions are providing a launch pad to propel online learning in the Caribbean to higher heights. Jamaican universities have the accreditation required to gain students looking for credible degrees as accreditation is always preferable for companies looking for employees. Jamaican universities now offer a range of certificate, diploma and degree programs based in a wide number of disciplines ? including art and culture, architecture and sculpture, science and technology, commerce and management, entertainment and enlightenment.

Certain institutions such as Utech are seen as specialists in their field. Focusing on a specific field means that certain institutions are seen the obvious choice for individuals looking to advance their career.

"The popularity of distance learning courses in Jamaica is due to the recognition of quality around the world. Distance learning courses are very useful not only for students and young people looking for a job but also for people who are currently in work or young professionals" said one distance learning graduate who had just completed her studies for her Bachelor degree in English.

Continued updating of educational information technology will make future distance learning degrees more flexible and allow a greater number of subjects to successfully be studied from home or other places with an internet connection. Students in Jamaica should be looking forward to a positive learning experience in the future as they start to be seen as a real force in the world of distance learning.

Trump overshadows Romney with 'birther' talk

(AP) ? Mitt Romney's presidential campaign collided with Donald Trump's "birther" rhetoric on Tuesday as the reality television star hosted a fundraiser for the Republican while claiming again that President Barack Obama is foreign-born.

The debunked conspiracy theory among conservative activists dubbed "birthers" charges that Obama is not constitutionally qualified to serve in the White House. Romney has said he believes Obama was born in America, but he has not condemned Trump's comments.

Democrats contend it's the latest example of Romney's reluctance to confront the more extreme elements in his party.

"A lot of people do not think it was an authentic certificate," Trump told CNN of Obama's birth certificate, just hours before he was set to host Romney's finance event at the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas.

Such allegations have been repeatedly proven false. The state of Hawaii recently re-affirmed that Obama was born there.

Trump's comments, repeated in several media interviews Tuesday, overshadowed Romney's visit to Nevada, one of a handful of swing states expected to decide the presidential contest in November. Trump also upstaged news from Texas that Romney had collected enough delegates to clinch the Republican presidential nomination.

Romney did not address the issue directly at separate events in Colorado and Nevada, but on Monday night he told reporters aboard his campaign plane that Trump is entitled to his opinion. Even as Trump-related criticism from Democrats and Republicans intensified in recent days, Romney showed no sign of distancing himself from the polarizing figure.

"I don't agree with all the people who support me. And my guess is they don't all agree with everything I believe in," Romney said. "But I need to get 50.1 percent or more. And I'm appreciative to have the help of a lot of good people."

The birth question wasn't brought up at the Las Vegas fundraiser, and Romney spoke highly of Trump's efforts on his behalf.

"Mr. Trump, thank you for letting us come to this beautiful hotel and being with so many friends," Romney said. "Thank you for twisting the arms that it takes to bring a fundraiser together. I appreciate your help."

Trump remains popular among the conservative base and boasts ties to deep-pocketed donors. The Las Vegas event was expected to raise $2 million, but Romney's ties to Trump extend beyond that single fundraiser. He has recorded automated phone calls for Romney, hosted a fundraiser for his wife, Ann, in New York, and pressed the candidate's case as a television surrogate.

When Romney's campaign plan arrived at the Las Vegas airport Tuesday, it parked within sight of Trump's plane ? the businessman's name emblazoned on the side in large gold letters.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, once a rival for the GOP nomination and now a Romney supporter, suggested that the Trump issue will not derail Romney's campaign.

"Gov. Romney's not distracted. The Republican Party's not distracted," said Gingrich, who attended the Trump fundraiser. "We believe that this is an American-born job-killing president. Other people may believe that he was born somewhere else and still kills jobs."

The Obama campaign released a video Tuesday criticizing what it considers Romney's unwillingness to stand up to Trump and the more extreme elements in his party. There have been other examples in recent weeks that underscore Romney's delicate push to win over skeptical conservatives while appealing to moderates and independents who generally deliver general election victories.

"Mitt Romney's continued embrace of Donald Trump and refusal to condemn his disgraceful conspiracy theories demonstrates his complete lack of moral leadership," Obama's deputy campaign manager, Stephanie Cutter, said in a statement. "If Mitt Romney lacks the backbone to stand up to a charlatan like Donald Trump because he's so concerned about lining his campaign's pockets, what does that say about the kind of president he would be?"

While Trump asserts that the matter of Obama's birth is a "good issue" for Romney, conservative commentator George Will questioned the "cost benefit" of Romney appearing with Trump.

"The cost of appearing with this bloviating ignoramus is obvious, it seems to me," Will said Sunday. "Donald Trump is redundant evidence that if your net worth is high enough, your IQ can be very low and you can still intrude into American politics. ... Again, I don't understand the benefit. What is Romney seeking?"

Trump revived the false claims about Obama's birthplace late last week, citing a story about a literary agency that mistakenly listed that Obama was born in Kenya.

While Romney briefly addressed the issue Monday, senior aide Eric Fehrnstrom declined to condemn Trump's remarks in a recent interview.

"I can't speak for Donald Trump ... but I can tell you that Mitt Romney accepts that President Obama was born in the United States," Fehrnstrom said. "He doesn't view the place of his birth as an issue in this campaign."

Shortwave America: ABC 7 News Releases Video Clip: Chicago ...

ABC Channel 7 (WLS-TV) has released a video reporting on Chicago Police NATO Communications. Before Shortwave America presents that, it is important that a specific issue be covered here first.?

Apparently, lots of people are whining and crying that Shortwave America is a "terrorist" information source that spouts "anti-police" rhetoric, and gives away sensitive police communications information.? Specifically, this seems to be just a few of the people at a popular Chicago Police blog that cannot be named here due to the offensive name on the blog.

Shortwave America is a legitimate radio journalism website and audio program focused on RADIO COMMUNICATIONS. That is the whole point of this operation, to bring the public news and information about amateur radio, shortwave broadcast, HF Single-Sideband, and other radio related items.

NATO 2012 was an event covered by countless media outlets and those media outlets include independent writers / journalists (freelancers), independent media organizations, non-profit organizations, main stream media, etc. Many independent reporters own their own operations, however small or large they might be. The first amendment and public records acts cover the right of a person to report on anything they wish, so long as they are not actually telling people to commit harm or commit crime.

The courts nationwide have upheld a reporter's rights to present items that are of public interest, hold political, social, and / or artistic value, as well as items that are publicly newsworthy. Unencrypted radio traffic is not deserving of protection per the United States Federal Communications Commission, and especially that unencrypted radio traffic that can easily be obtained by several means ranging from freedom of information act requests, to I-Phone Apps, Internet Streaming of public safety radio, radio receivers known as "scanners", amateur radio equipment, word of mouth, by walking next to or standing by a police officer or other public safety employee with a radio that is openly audible, and real time media reports.

If it can be obtained on tape or other media storage by FOIA request, and then be subsequently published once a person has their hands on it, then there is no problem with reporting in real time because the recording will only serve as confirmation of what was reported on. ??

A Chicago journalist named "Timmy" runs his own operation under the name of "Avondale and Logan Square Crime Blotter" in which he reveals radio traffic from several police districts on a daily basis. The community lauds "Timmy" as a hero for keeping the community up to date on criminal activity and beat meetings. Timmy has had to fight for his First Amendment right to publish as he sees fit as a way of giving back to the community.

Shortwave America gives back to the community on an international basis by publishing written and audio works relevant to radio, and that includes major events if and when command and communications traffic is known to be available. The public has a vested interest in staying informed of what is happening around them for their own safety and well-being. Reportage of everyday government activities and major special event related government activities serves as a check and balance of the people. "Originally, the First Amendment applied only to laws enacted by the Congress. However, starting with Gitlow v. New York, the Supreme Court has applied the First Amendment to each state. This was done through the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment." - Wikipedia.

In Lovell v. City of Griffin, 303 U.S. 444 (1938), Chief Justice Hughes defined the press as, "every sort of publication which affords a vehicle of information and opinion."[86] Freedom of the press, like freedom of speech, is subject to restrictions on bases such as defamation law.

In Branzburg v. Hayes, 408 U.S. 665 (1972), the Court ruled that the First Amendment did not give a journalist the right to refuse a subpoena from a grand jury. The issue decided in the case was whether a journalist could refuse to "appear and testify before state and Federal grand juries" basing the refusal on the belief that such appearance and testimony "abridges the freedom of speech and press guaranteed by the First Amendment."[87] The 5?4 decision was that such a protection was not provided by the First Amendment. (From WIKIPEDIA)

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." - First Amendment, United States Bill of Rights.

Streetlights Draw Insects At Ground Level

More insects, including many carnivores and scavengers, hang out under streetlights than between them, even during the day. Christopher Intagliata reports.

You've probably seen clouds of insects swirling round a streetlamp at night. But something you may not have noticed is that streetlights attract bugs to the ground below them, too?especially carnivorous bugs, like beetles. So says a study in the journal Biology Letters by researchers at the University of Exeter. Thomas W. Davies, Jonathan Bennie and Kevin J. Gaston, Street lighting changes the composition of invertebrate communities]

The researchers set up 28 traps in the grass below and between streetlamps in the English town of Helston, in Cornwall. They collected captured insects at dawn and dusk over three days, and ended up with nearly 1200 specimens. Turns out, more bugs hung out under the lights than between them. And that was true at night and day?suggesting that streetlights permanently upped the value of the buggy real estate below them.

The researchers also found greater numbers of predators and scavengers under the lamps?like ground beetles, harvestmen and ants?because it may be easier to hunt for prey with the help of a spotlight.

With artificial lighting increasing globally at six percent a year, the authors say there's a chance light pollution could shake up food webs in unforeseen ways. Call it a bug in the system.

DNA Testing and Genealogy - Relatively Speaking

Genealogy - a term growing in popularity among the young and old alike. ?Searching for and reconnecting with relatives can be very exciting and sometimes life altering!? With the internet, popular websites and programs are out there and it's easier than ever to find long lost relatives and reunite families across the planet.? FamilyTreeMaker.com and Ancestry.com are among the leaders in this emerging field.? Facebook is another way people are reuniting with one another.

Many people have recently been in a situation where they have had someone contact them out of the blue claiming to be a relative of uncle so-and-so, or a half-sibling that may have been adopted by another family or raised by a single parent.?? While the concept can be exiting, when it comes down to it and a connection really happens, the experience can be a little confusing and well, a little scary!?

Often times before developing a relationship with newly made acquaintance, or even before meeting for the first time, one or both parties may prefer to prove the existence of a biological relationship.? That is where a company like Paternity-USA comes in.? DNA testing is really the only way to be sure that a real connection exists and a true relative has been found.

DNA testing is more accurate and affordable than ever now.? With technological and scientific developments, it is also easier to test a wider variety of possible relatives than in the past.? There are many options available depending upon what relative(s) may be open to testing.? Believe it or not, the most conclusive tests are the least expensive.? Paternity and Maternity test results are always a 99.9% positive or 0% negative, unless the test participants do share a biological relationship but just not that of a parent/child.?

Testing with other family members is also a possibility.? Accredited DNA tests on the market today include Grandparent and Grandchild, Aunt or Uncle DNA Test, Sibship and Y-STR.? It is true that some tests may be more conclusive than others.? With most of the DNA tests, other than direct paternity and maternity tests, the conclusiveness of the results is greatly increased with the addition of the mother or mothers DNA samples.

It is best to contact a reputable company such as Paternity-USA.com, and discuss your case in details with a case manager.? There are often suggestions that can be made and situational details that can affect the result of the test you chose. ??For example, if the parties in question are half siblings at best, meaning they share only one parent or none, and the known parents are not able to participate in the test, testing with an aunt or uncle can give a more conclusive result. ?

What may not have seemed possible yesterday is a reality today and what may not seem possible today, could be a reality tomorrow.? Companies like Paternity-USA.com work hard to bring the most up-to-date accredited testing to the public at large, at a price point that is reasonable.

Cook Reveals More Details About Apple?s Product Naming Policies, And Yes, The ?S? Stands For Siri

Siri iPhone 4SApple's product naming polices can be somewhat confusing and arbitrary: And today an audience member at D10 called Apple CEO Tim Cook out on the somewhat bizarre strategy, "How did you guys go from an iPad to an iPad 2 to an iPad 4 to a 4s?" "A lot of people ask me that question," he said. "Well you look back at iPod," he reminisced (Cook is a huge fan of the iPod), "We changed it a few times. We changed the size and came up with the 'iPod Nano.' Then we changed it massively and then we came up with 'iPod shuffle.'" Cook revealed that the naming iterations often accompany massive product shifts and are actually not stemming from any sort of structure. Apparently Apple really names things on a case by case basis, "We went from the MacBook Pro to the MacBook Air to the iMac. You can do it either way is the real story."

From 1 July 2012, the business migration program will be integrated to the SkillSelect system. SkillSelect requires applicants to first lodge an EOI(Expression of Interest). The Department of Immigration will then assess the EOIs which have been submitted and invite the best applicants to make a visa application.
As a result, from 1 July 2012 people will not be able to apply directly for business migration, they must first make an EOI and receive an invitation from the Department of Immigration.

Number of Visa Subclasses Will Be Reduced From 13 To 3
From 1 July 2012, there will only be 3 business migration subclasses:
? Business Talent (Subclass 132) ? a direct pathway to permanent residence for top level business people
? Provisional Business Innovation and Investment (Subclass 188) ? a 4-year provisional visa
? Permanent Business Innovation and Investment (Subclass 888) ? the permanent stage of the provisional subclass 188 visa

New Innovation Points Test
A new innovation points test has been created for the provisional subclass 188 visa which gives points for:
? Age
? English Language Ability
? Qualifications
? Experience in Business or Investment
? Net Personal Assets
? Business Turnover
? Special Endorsement by State/Territory Government

The applicants for provisional business visas will now need to meet a points test requirement. The new system will seek to advantage applicants who are more innovative and more likely to succeed in business in Australia as SkillSelect will give highest priority to people with the highest points score.

Transitional Arrangements
Provisional business visa holders (ie subclasses 160-165) will still be able to apply for permanent residence through the current system (ie through subclass 890-893). The same applies to anyone who applies for the current subclasses as they will be assessed under the current visa criteria prior to 1 July 2012.
It appears that provisional business visa holders will not need to go through SkillSelect for their permanent stage in particular.
In the near future, though not specifically mentioned, it is quite possible that the Established Business in Australia Subclass 845 visa and the Regional Established Business in Australia Subclass 846 visa may be abolished.

Summary
With these change in the business skills program, it is clear that the Australian government is trying to elevate the standard for business migration. Business turnover will be higher along with personal net assets and applicants will receive points for showing a higher degree of innovation raise.
As with the SkillSelect requirement, this is to ensure that only the most highly qualified applicants will be able to make applications for business migration.

Lady Gaga Under Fire After 'PopStarsDontEat' Comment ...

What was clearly intended as a jokey tweet lamenting the rigorous diet and exercise routine she is currently undertaking to prepare for her 110-date Born This Way Ball has put Lady Gaga in the crosshairs of some angry fans and eating-disorder organizations. On Tuesday, the pop star tweeted, ?Just killed back to back spin classes. Eating a salad dreaming of a cheeseburger #PopSingersDontEat #IWasBornThisWay.? Some fans thought the tweet wasn?t exactly keeping with the pop star?s ?You?re perfect the way you are? message and that her choice of the ?#PopStarsDontEat? hashtag could be misinterpreted as encouraging eating disorders because she posits herself as a role model to her fans.

The National Eating Disorder Association even weighed in, hitting its own Twitter account to write, ?Huh? This is the same person who recently implored girls to stop dieting??

MTV Buzzworthy has an Open Letter To Lady Gaga While it seems clear that Gaga was joking ? who hasn?t dove into a salad wishing it was something else? ? the comment does appear out of character for the star, who has spoken publicly about her own struggles with an eating disorder as a teen. Using that particular hashtag might have been a poor choice, but it?s safe to say Lady Gaga wasn?t knowingly making light of eating disorders ? and, otherwise, wasn?t she mostly just encouraging exercise and healthy eating? Gaga tweets often about all sort of less-than-healthful habits, from drinking (?after 12 margaritas my phone was confiscated?) to, well, other things (?princess xena of xanaxland has lil secrets in her inbox?). Why she is being scrutinized for making an observation about something we already know ? that celebrities engage in intense fitness regimens to meet the unrealistic expectations placed on their appearance ? is kind of a mystery. But, you know, totally appropriate and necessary reason for outrage, everyone. Sound off on Gaga?s #PopSingersDontEat tweet in the comments below!

Nordic Naturals Pet Cod Liver Oil Review

Nordic Naturals is a green, sustainable company that has been setting the standards for omega excellence since 1995. Nordic Naturals prides itself on producing quality, non toxic, fish oil by sustainable fishing practices.

Nordic Naturals makes products for both humans and pets and for this particular review I was using the Pet Cod Liver Oil For Dogs on Sherman?s food.

I was pretty exciting to do this review because I am always looking for safe ways to supplement the boys to support healthy skin and coat, joint heath and of course heart health.

Besides providing the above mentioned benefits of cod liver oil, it can also help support cellular health, immune system health, brain?development and maintenance, and eye?development?and maintenance.

Traditionally, Norwegians have used cod liver oil for its nourishing and healthful benefits. It is an ideal source of the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, as well as naturally occurring vitamin A. Nordic Naturals Pet Cod Liver Oil continues this tradition by providing your dog and cat patients and companions with these same important nutrients.

Nordic Naturals Pet Cod Liver Oil is derived exclusively from wild Arctic cod (Skrei), from the Norwegian Sea off the Lofoten Islands near Bod?, Norway.

My only concern when trying out the Pet Cod Liver Oil was the amount of Vitamin A that was in the product. Vitamin A is fat soluble vitamin that is stored ?in the fat cells of dogs and too much Vitamin A can lead to?toxicity?and while very rare, may cause bone issues and/or organ damage.

Now, you guys know me and I would never put my dogs in any type of danger, so I talked with the vet and she told me that Vitmain A toxcity is rare and as long as you know the amount of Vitamin?A that you are giving, because it is present in dog food, it would be fine.

I also contacted Nordic Naturals about the Vitamin A in their product and here is what they had to say:

Both cod liver oil and fish body oil are oils derived from fish that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Cod liver oil is derived specifically from the liver of cod, while fish body is derived from the body of fish. Because the liver is a reservoir of Vitamin A, cod liver oil is higher in Vitamin A content than fish body oil.

The vitamin A concentrations can vary between specific brands of cod liver oil. Some manufacturers will add additional vitamin A to cod liver oil to boost Vitamin A levels. Nordic Naturals does not add additional Vitamin A. The natural vitamin A is acceptable for pets.

Because Vitamin A is fat soluble, it can accumulate in the liver and body and can have harmful effects when supplemented in excessive levels.

Pet owners should be aware of other foods or treats fed to their pets that may also provide high levels of Vitamin A (such as liver), and take all these things into consideration when evaluating the safety of their pet?s diet and additional supplements. This also applies to pet owners feeding their pets raw food diets and home-prepared diets.

Consult your veterinarian to evaluate the total amount of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin A and D your dog/puppy or cat/kitten should receive on a daily basis based on species, age, activity level, diet, life stage (growth/reproduction and adult), and health condition of your pet.

After I determined that the product would be more than safe to give Sherman I started the revew and gave him 1 teaspoon of the Pet Cod Liver Oil on his food every evening for 2 months. Sherman loves fish so I knew that he would really enjoy this, and he did.

While the results were not immediate, over time I did notice that the?flaky?skin that I was seeing on his back began to disappear and his coat, which was lacking in the shine department, began to glisten again.

Another thing that I noticed was his movement up the stairs.

Sherman is 5 and while this is not old for the average dog, it is getting up there for a giant breed dog, and over the winter I noticed him moving a little slower up the stairs. After about 1 month on the Nordic Naturals Pet Cod Liver Oil , I began to notice a spring in Sherman?s step going up the stairs. He was moving faster and more?fluently. My husband noticed it too.

Now, can I say with 100% certainly that this was due to the cod liver oil?

No.

But I do know that over the 2 months he was on it, I made no changes in his diet.

To learn more about Nordic Naturals Pet Line you can check it out at Nordic Pet.

Stay tuned here for a?giveaway?coming up later this week for a chance to win a bottle of Nordic Naturals Pet Cod Liver Oil!

***Disclaimer: I received one free 8 ounce bottle of Nordic Naturals Pet Cod Liver Oil from Nordic Naturals in return for my honest review of their product. All?opinions?expressed here are mine and mine only.

Who Has the Germiest Offices?

May 30, 2012 7:12pm

Men?s offices harbor significantly more bacteria than women?s, according to a new study published in the online journal PLoS ONE.

The types of bacteria are the same, and come mostly from the skin, nose, mouth and digestive tract.? Several types are also commonly found in feces.

Researchers from the San Diego State University and the University of Arizona took 450 samples from different office surfaces in New York City, San Francisco and Tucson, Ariz.

Chairs and phones had the highest amount of bacteria, while desktops, keyboards and computer mice had fewer bacteria.

One of the main reasons the researchers did the study was to learn more about what microorganisms inhabit workplaces.

?Westerners spend about 90 percent of time indoors in artificial environments that we build, and workplaces are where we spend a lot of our time,? said co-author Scott Kelley, a professor of biology at San Diego State.

Kelly said he believes men?s work spaces have more bacteria simply because men are generally bigger than women, though there could also be other reasons.

For example, he said, ?Skin is a major source of the bacteria, and if men?s hands are physically bigger, there?s more surface area to colonize bacteria.? Men?s mouths are also bigger.?

Philip Tierno, a clinical professor microbiology and pathology at NYU Langone Medical Center, said another reason is that men just aren?t as clean as women.

?Men tend to be less tidy.? They wash their hands less than women and tend to be a little more cavalier about eating from the floor or from other surfaces,? he said.? Tierno was not involved in the study.? ?Also, numerous people touch chairs and phones, but not as many people touch keyboards.?

Previous research found that the opposite is true ? women?s offices are more contaminated than men?s, perhaps in part because women use cosmetics and are more likely to store food in their desks.

One reason for the discrepancy between the studies, Tierno said, is the method used to identify the bacteria.? Kelley?s study uses molecular methods, which are more sensitive and specific than the culture-based identification used in other research.

In addition to differences between men and women, Kelley said the study also found that there was no significant difference between the types of bacteria found in offices in San Francisco and New York. In Tucson, though, there were different types of bacteria associated with drier, desert-like climates.

Though there may be a lot of bacteria in office spaces, Kelley said, most of it doesn?t do much harm.

?Most of what?s brought in is harmless, but it?s very easy to spread.? If someone gets sick, they should stay home because they are bring bacteria in with them and making others sick.?

Organic Pest Control for NJ Homeowners - IdeaMarketers.com

There are few things more annoying than being plagued with pests and unwanted insects. Now, thanks to organic pest control. NJ homeowners have the option to get rid of ants, cockroaches, wasps, mice, squirrels and other unwanted and destructive pests. While a few of these methods can be implemented by any homeowner, others require a professional organic pest control NJ company. In case green pest control NJ companies aren't on your radar, here are a few ways they can treat your property and home to ensure a pest-free summer.

Botanical and Essential Oils

Most exterminators use synthetic and chemical insecticides, poisons and pesticides. That may be the traditional route, but you should know that nature has provided many substances that are not harmful to humans or pets. Green pest control NJ companies use treatments made with botanical ingredients and essential oils. Although that may sound more like a recipe for a massage than a strategy for getting rid of unwanted insects and animals, they have a proven record of repelling pests like carpenter ants, wasps, bees, squirrels, cave crickets and ticks. By signing up for a regular program of organic pest control, NJ property owners can enjoy a summer without being concerned about ticks, wasps and other dangerous and destructive pests.

Traps and Removal

When it comes to green pest control, NJ experts understand that removing an animal or insect nest is usually a preferable alternative to killing the animals. New Jersey organic companies will use the more humane option of trapping and removing squirrels, raccoons and other large rodents and relocating them to a safe area located far away. They can also neutralize wasps, bees and other stinging insects and relocate their nests to an area where they are not dangerous to you and your family.

Prevention

When it comes to potential pest problems, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Part of any good program is preventing re-infestation. A good NJ pest control company will determine how pests are getting into your home and onto your property and block their access routes. Organic pest control NJ experts will advise you on such matters as trimming overhanging branches, screening openings and holes that allow insects and small rodents to enter, and ways to store food and garbage so that it's not attractive to pests.

New Jersey Insects

New Jersey is the Garden State, and thus home to thousands of species of insects. Yet, only a few of them commonly rise to the level of "pest." The most common are cockroaches, ants, carpenter ants, wasps, yellow jackets, centipedes, cave crickets, ticks and bed bugs. Some of these are dangerous - cockroaches carry disease and contribute to allergies and asthma, for example - while others, such as centipedes and cave crickets, are merely nuisances. All can be controlled by organic pest control methods.

Green Pest Control

Whether you live in the suburbs, the city or a rural area, your home is subject to invasion by wild animals, including skunks, squirrels, pigeons, raccoons and groundhogs. In addition to spreading disease, these animals can play havoc with your vegetable garden, destroy your lawn and damage your home or property in other ways. Organic companies can trap and relocate most animal pests.

Why subject your family to noxious chemicals and damaging neurotoxins when you can hire an organic company to get rid of your pests permanently - without dangerous poisons?

Greek experts say they find Med's deepest wrecks

ATHENS, Greece (AP) ? Greece's culture ministry says two Roman-era shipwrecks found in deep waters off the country's western coast disprove the accepted theory that ancient shipmasters stuck to coastal routes rather than risking the open sea.

A ministry statement says the two 2nd century AD wrecks were discovered earlier this month between 1.2 and 1.4 kilometers (0.7-0.9 miles) deep

Tuesday's statement said these are the deepest known ancient wrecks in the Mediterranean.

They were located during an investigation off the islands of Corfu and Paxoi, in waters where a Greek-Italian gas pipeline is to be sunk.

A Greek oceanographic vessel using side-scan radar and robot submarines took footage of scattered pottery, ballast stones and what could be remains of the wooden ships.

The team also raised samples of pottery and marble artifacts.

If you are new to internet marketing, you may be wondering if it is possible to create an income when you are so fresh from the starting gates. You absolutely can make an internet income before your business becomes profitable or you have your own product with Affiliate Marketing. This is how it works?

1. Write your email so it tells a story and that story leads into the product.

2.Tell your list about your experience with the product and how it has benefited you.

3.Make sure you include your affiliate link in the email. Three times seems to be the magic number for affiliate links within an email.

4.If you only promote good products that relate to your list, they will come to trust your recommendations.

OK, you?re thinking, I?m a new Internet Marketer, I don?t have a list. Then you need to work on that. There are resources out there that can help you with that, like the Email Magic free 30 day list building course. Make list building your #1 priority. But never fear, you can still make money with Affiliate Marketing while you are growing your list. That?s right, despite what the gurus tell you, you don?t have to have a huge list to make money online. A small list of buyers is wirth much more than a huge list of non-buyers. Right? I learned that from Connie Ragan Green aka the Marketing Madwoman She taught me to treat the list you have like gold, be authentic and show integrity. They?ll buy from you if you do.

Social Media Marketing is another great way to make money with other people?s products. The same principles apply. Show your networks you are someone trustworthy with integrity, only promote what you believe in and add value to what you promote. Don?t blast your product links all over, but let people know you are there to help. Build relationships, communicate, converse. Let others get to know you.

Aweber gives you a direct link to your email marketing broadcasts so you can tweet or post those links for others to read the same promotional emails you send to your list. The internet income potential is limitless even if you never have your own products. Be creative, helpful and be a benefit to others. Learn from others more successful than you. Be an internet marketer with integrity and you will succeed.

Exclusive: Pakistan doctor in bin Laden case called corrupt, womanizer

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - The Pakistani doctor who helped the CIA find Osama bin Laden faced accusations of corruption and other wrongdoing long before he was captured by Pakistani intelligence agents and then jailed for 33 years for treason.

In interviews over the weekend, several current and former Pakistani officials described the doctor, Shakil Afridi, as a hard-drinking womanizer who had faced accusations of sexual assault, harassment and stealing. They said his main obsession was making easy money.

According to a 2002 Pakistan health department document seen by Reuters, Afridi was deemed to be corrupt and unreliable and unfit for government service.

U.S. officials have hailed Afridi, aged in his 40s, as a hero for helping pinpoint bin Laden's location in the Pakistani town of Abbottabad where the al Qaeda leader was killed in May last year in a raid by U.S. Navy SEALs.

Officially Pakistan has said nothing about Afridi except that the court's decision to sentence him should be respected. But the fresh accusations about Afridi's character, coupled with his imprisonment, will almost certainly lead to further strain on already tense bilateral ties.

Pakistani officials' attempts to cast doubt on Afridi's character will likely be viewed in some quarters as retaliation for his work with the Americans, despite the disclosures in the 2002 Pakistani document.

U.S. officials on Monday called the accusations character assassination. In Washington, one senior official said the U.S. government was unaware of any questionable behavior by Afridi.

"Available information showed Afridi was a respected member of the Pakistani health care community," said the senior official. "We are aware of efforts, put in place since Dr. Afridi's arrest, to denigrate his character."

Another U.S. official said: "It's nothing short of puzzling that Pakistani officials would disparage someone who helped in the hunt for bin Laden, a terrorist who had Pakistani blood on his hands."

The Afridi family's lawyer declined to be drawn on the controversy. "I cannot comment on any past allegations against him," Raza Safi told Reuters.

Afridi ran a vaccination campaign in Abbottabad and used cheek swabs to try to gather DNA from bin Laden's children, said one former Pakistani security official familiar with the case.

Accompanied by three health workers, he went to bin Laden's house and told his wives that a vaccination program was underway in the area, said the former security official.

"A woman went in (to the house) and said 'bring the children out, the doctor is waiting and he will give them the drops'," the former official said. "That's when he used the swabs."

It was unclear whether the CIA used the swabs to determine if the children were bin Laden's. A DNA test can prove close blood relations and U.S. authorities could have matched the samples with profiles it had collected from several of bin Laden's relatives.

INADVERTENTLY CONFIRMED

In Washington, another senior U.S. official with knowledge of Afridi's work for the CIA said the doctor's vaccination efforts had also enabled him to gather intelligence on bin Laden's couriers who visited the house.

"Dr Afridi was inadvertently able to confirm something we already suspected - that bin Laden's couriers practiced extraordinary operational security," the official said.

"Was that a key to the raid? No. Was it important? Absolutely."

U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said on Sunday that Afridi "was not working against Pakistan. He was working against al Qaeda. And I hope that ultimately Pakistan understands that".

"Because what they have done here, I think, you know, does not help in the effort to try to re-establish a relationship between the United States and Pakistan."

U.S. Congressman Dana Rohrabacher introduced legislation in February calling for Afridi to be granted U.S. citizenship and said it was "shameful and unforgivable that our supposed allies" charged him.

UNWANTED SCRUTINY

Infuriated by the unilateral U.S. raid in a town just a two-hour drive from the capital Islamabad, many in the country see Afridi as a villain who conspired against the state and brought unwanted scrutiny of Pakistan's attitude to militants.

Last week, a tribal court sentenced him to 33 years in prison for working with a foreign intelligence agency.

Afridi is being kept in solitary confinement in a prison in the city of Peshawar for fear that he may be targeted by Islamic militants also incarcerated there, said prison sources.

Afridi had been working with the CIA for years before the bin Laden raid, providing intelligence on militant groups in Pakistan's unruly tribal region, said the former Pakistani security official and a former Pakistani intelligence official.

They and other officials said he was of questionable character. "Afridi was known to perform surgeries even though his qualification was basic and he was not authorized to conduct surgery," a senior provincial health official said.

"He was accused of conducting surgeries of the eyes, nose, ears, kidneys."

Afridi was also in contact with militant groups and treated Taliban fighters who were wounded in battle with the Pakistani military, said the former security official.

The Taliban are described by the state as terrorists, and most Pakistanis strongly oppose their suicide bombing missions, and philosophy.

"Keeping in view his extreme lust for money, I am ashamed to even call him a doctor. He is a corrupt, unreliable and low category officer," said a March 2002 provincial health department report on Afridi's performance and conduct.

The document described Afridi as unreliable, cruel and inhumane and gave him the lowest job performance scores in most categories. It went on to say:

"If his overall character as a doctor is taken into account I would recommend and feel that he is not at all fit for government service or any position where money is involved."

CHARACTERLESS

Tariq Hayat, formerly the highest government official in the Khyber tribal region, said he knew Afridi when the doctor worked at a hospital there and was a senior medical officer.

Hayat said he met him twice to question him over allegations that he had sexually assaulted a nurse at his hospital and had stolen its electrocardiograph machines for his private practice.

"I made him stand ... I told him you are a characterless person, you have no principles," said Hayat, adding he had Afridi fired and expelled him from Khyber. "I said 'you are a thief, doctor'."

A senior health official who said he saw a record of the case said a nurse had complained about sexual harassment to the regional health director. That account was confirmed by a senior police official who investigated Afridi.

"A number of nurses had complained about him, that he had behaved inappropriately with them," said the police official, adding that Afridi was also accused of stealing material sent by international aid agencies and selling it.

These accounts could not be independently verified.

Afridi's brother Jamil described the treason charges as baseless and said the doctor was being made a scapegoat.

"If my brother had done something wrong, he had a valid U.S. visa. He could have fled the country," he said, adding that the family had received no offers of help from the U.S. government.

He did not respond to questions about the charges of corruption and harassment.

"I am in hiding because my life is in danger, all of our lives are in danger," Jamil Afridi said. "The family is safe for now but the propaganda campaign in the media is putting us in a lot of danger."

Some health workers who knew Afridi described him as a dedicated, polite professional.

"He was very nice to all the people in the team and did his job very diligently," said Naseem Bibi, a nurse.

She said she had been with him when the medical team visited bin Laden's house. "Yes, he was very interested in this house on that day, but I wasn't sure why," she said.

EASY PREY

His reputation hurt by allegations, Afridi was easy prey for the CIA which found him through his connections to Western aid agencies in about 2009, said the former security official.

"The man was living beyond his means after he was fired," said the former security official. "He got married a third time. He maintained a couple of cars."

Afridi, who came to Abbottabad to carry out the vaccination campaign apparently at the CIA's behest, blundered when he visited the district health officer in the town.

He told the officer he was a volunteer who wanted to provide vaccinations in a certain area and he gave the officer his real name, the former security official said.

The team moved from house to house conducting vaccinations and leaving chalk marks on the door to show the people inside had been vaccinated, as is customary in Pakistan.

"They went in systematically the way a team is supposed to work," said the official. "No eyebrows were raised."

But after bin Laden was killed, his widows unwittingly helped Pakistani authorities track Afridi.

"They said that the only time when somebody from outside visited the house, was this polio vaccination (team)," said the former security official, who believed the only other visitor to the house was bin Laden's courier, about once a month.

Afridi was quickly scooped up by security officials.

When interrogated, Afridi initially said he had no ties with Americans, said the former security official.

"He categorically denied everything to start with," said the former security official. "But when the Americans started asking for him, then I think the cat was out of the bag."
